Severn School was founded in 1914 by Roland M. Teel〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Severn School ~ Home Page )〕 in Severna Park, Maryland, as a preparatory school for the United States Naval Academy. In 2013, Severn School merged with nearby Chesapeake Academy. Currently the school enrolls boys and girls from pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. Severn is both the oldest and largest private school in Anne Arundel County. ==Athletics== The Severn Admirals compete in thirteen varsity sports: sailing, lacrosse, cross country running, football, wrestling, soccer, basketball, swimming, baseball, golf, tennis, field hockey, and track and field in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association. Severn has 35 varsity, junior varsity, and middle school teams. The Severn sailing team won the 2007 Singlehanded Nationals, has been on the podium for the three last Double Handed Nationals, and placed second in the Team Racing Nationals in 2005. For the 2007–2008 school year, the Varsity Tennis team went undefeated and won the conference championships. The female section of the co-ed cross country team won championships during the 2008–2009 season.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Severn School - )〕 Severn has received praise for their nationally acclaimed sailing team, which held the title of the number one high school sailing team in the nation in 2008, coached that year by Thomas Sitzmann. Scott Steele, 1984 Olympic Silver Medalist in sailboarding, then coached the team until the 2014-2015 season when he was replaced by returning head coach Thomas Sitzmann.〔
